Gratitude can do such amazing things for us when we learn to use it properly. But a big part of being grateful means that we must learn how to express our gratitude to those who mean the most to us. 

Sometimes this can be difficult–awkward even. Many of us are still working on being able to properly articulate our feelings, and it can be intimidating and vulnerable to voice these feelings to other people—even people that we trust.  

That is why I wanted to share some of the best ways I have found to say “I Appreciate You”. 

What is the meaning of “I Appreciate You”? 

“I appreciate you” means that you are thankful for someone because they have added value to your life. It is a powerful way to let people know they are important to you.  

Sometimes that person has just done something for you, but that doesn’t have to always be the case. If you reflect on your life, there are probably many people who love and support you.  

Gratitude is an important part of building and maintaining important relationships, and expressing your gratitude is a great place to start.  

The Meaning Of I Appreciate You

Who should you say “I Appreciate You” To? 

You should say “I Appreciate You” to anyone who makes your life better. But here are some examples: 

  • To the person who makes you feel like you can be yourself with. 
  • To the coworker who empathizes with you and tries to make your day less chaotic.  
  • To the person who can make you laugh, no matter what you are going through. 
  • To the person who lets you vent about anything and everything without complaining. 
  • To the person or people who have raised you. Who put a roof over your head and made sure you always had food on your plate and a safe place to sleep. 
  • To the person who has been by your side the longest, and has witnessed all your struggles and success. 
  • To the person who has challenged you to leave your comfort zone and try new things. 
  • To the person you call when you have got into trouble and need someone to help you. 
  • To the person that just has a good soul and you can tell they want the best for you. 
  • To the person, or people, that inspire you to become a better person.  
  • To a friend you have lost touch with, but share great memories with.  
  • To someone you know that always stays positive, no matter how hard things get for them.  
  • To the person who surprises you with a random act of kindness.  

How To Say “I Appreciate You” 

It can be difficult to know what to say to others when you aren’t used to expressing your gratitude. But it doesn’t have to be that difficult. You can figure out the best way to express your gratitude for someone in three simple steps:

  1. Determine what you appreciate about that person. Is it their kindness? Do they always make you laugh? Were they always driving you around while your car was getting repaired? 
  2. Decide why you appreciate that thing about them. Did it help you? Did it make you feel happy?  
  3. Now put both previous steps together. For example, “I appreciate you for listening to me when I was upset about my breakup, it helped me to not feel alone.”
