8 Ways To Invest In Yourself Plus Why It’s Important

Invest in yourself

Most of us have no problem splurging on new clothes, the latest cellphone, or the newest skincare products, but struggle when it comes to investing in the most important thing there is–ourselves.

As someone who has always put others first, this is something I have always had trouble with. I very rarely spend money on myself– let alone spending money for myself. However, as I am years into my self-love journey I can now see the importance of personal growth and acknowledge that sometimes spending money for that growth isn’t a bad thing.

Below I am going to share a number of ways you can invest in yourself.

Why Is It Important To Invest In Yourself

It is important to invest in ourselves because personal growth improves our lives in numerous ways. Not only does it improve our confidence, but it also improves our self-worth and our relationships with others.

Studies show that people who participate in personal growth groups are more likely to speak positively about themselves. People who speak positively about themselves are happier and healthier than those that don’t.

What Happens When You Don’t Participate In Personal Growth?

If you choose to ignore your own personal growth the consequence is fairly simple–you will not grow. However, the negative effects of rejecting self-growth can have a winder impact than you might think/

Personal growth makes you more resilient, so a lack of personal growth would mean you would succumb to stress, burnout, and exhaustion much easier than someone who makes personal growth a priority.

A study from the Journal of Adolescence found that people who ignored personal growth were at a greater risk for low self-esteem and depression.

If you want to be happy and feel great about yourself, it seems investing in your self-growth is a great way to do it.

Ways To Invest In Yourself

There are many ways that you can invest in yourself, but some of the most common ways are:

1. Buy books

Learning new information is one of the best ways you can invest in yourself.

And one of the best ways to learn new information is through books. If you aren’t much of a reader, podcasts, and audio books are a great way to learn too.

There are so many wonderful self-help books out there.

2. Attend seminars or workshops

Wellness retreats, and self-help seminars and workshops like those put on by Tony Robins, might sound a little corny at first. Trust me, I’ve been there.

But there is something about being in a room full of like-minded individuals, where everyone is fully energized and full of positive energy. It is a great place to have a light bulb moment or to have a big realization that could change the entire course of your life.

3. Get a coach

It seems like there are coaches for everything these days, but hiring a life coach can be a great way to get some outside perspective and give you the motivation you need to make the decisions that will make you happier in life.

A life coach can help you develop into the person you want to become and can save you time, and from making some big mistakes on the way.

4. Join a community

If getting a life coach isn’t for you, joining a community could be another great way to invest in yourself.

Positivity is infectious, and by surrounding yourself by positive, happy people that are interested in self-growth you will start to grow and evolve by proximity.

5. Take a course

Online courses can be expensive. But there are some great courses that can help you to evolve and grow as a person. They could be courses on how to be more confident, how to be a better leader, how to love yourself more. Whatever you are struggling with and would like to improve you can probably find a wonderful course for it online.

6. Try new things

There is no better way to learn things about yourself and who you are as a person than trying new things. When you open yourself up to new experiences you give yourself the chance to find new things to love about life.

7. More self-care

Investing in self-care is never a bad thing. In fact, most people severely neglect their self-care.

Some ways you can invest in your self-care are:

8. Invest in your mental health

This could have been included above but I felt it was so important that it needed it’s own point.

Investing in my mental health was one of the best things I ever did for myself.

Therapists are a lot of money, but when you find the right one they are so worth it in my opinion.

I would not be the person I am today without making the decision to get help when I really needed it, and so many people out there refuse to seek help because they don’t want to spend the money.

Your mental health is just as important if not more important than your physical health, so do not feel bad for spending money when it comes to taking care of your mental health.

Final Thoughts…

Refusing to participate in self-growth hurts nobody but yourself in the long run. This is the only life you have been given, so why wouldn’t you want to become the best person that you can possibly be?

By taking action and investing in yourself you will begin to see the rewards of self-growth including increased confidence and happiness.

Take care of yourself.
